The third revolution in education

While the Church has abandoned its mandate to educate and teach the nations through schools and universities, a mandate that it had taken seriously for nearly 2000 years, the deep crisis affecting this area leads to an awareness of the need to rebuild in a world in ruins, to lay new foundations, to move away from the "thermometer" mentality which records the temperature of culture and move to that of "thermostats" called to regulate this temperature, to play this role of witnesses of Christ, witnesses of the truth, bearers of meaning, life and hope. A new Reform is necessary, a third “Revolution”, driven by technological means which offer incredible possibilities.

The first educational revolution in Europe began during the Carolingian Renaissance (8th and 9th centuries AD) driven by a large-scale educational policy, nourished by the Word of God: standardization of knowledge and writing, structured curriculum, expanded dissemination of instruction. We are witnessing a lasting transformation in the way of teaching and transmitting knowledge in Europe.

The Open letter to the Christian nobility of the German nation (1520) by Martin Luther initiated the second revolution. Understanding the universal priesthood of believers required an education that enabled everyone to read the Scriptures, in order to know God and serve Him as “priest and king.” Compulsory education was decreed in Geneva in 1559 under the leadership of John Calvin, initiating a movement for the democratization of education from which nations still benefit.

Today the idea that God governs the nations and that we must live according to his precepts in all areas of society is foreign to most people. The very idea of ​​truth is abandoned. Humanist thought has imposed itself everywhere and shows its limits, its failures, its poverty. It is in this context that the mandate of teaching and education that God has given to the Church resounds again, where transformative truth and virtue will have their place.

This book of more than 700 pages, the contribution of nearly thirty authors from around the world, presents a vision and a plan to realize this mandate.
